Since my last post, I saw Dr Claire Dearden at The Royal Marsden in London for a second opinion. What a lovely lady. This hospital is a centre of excellence and has ongoing clinical trials and many different types of treatment for CLL. Her view is that chemo treatment is too soon and aggressive. She has done further tests and is seeing me again in 2 months. She is not convinced the enlarged spleen is down to CLL. We talked about lifestyle and helpful changes to make that may make a difference. She doesn’t want to embark on CLL treatment if it is not appropriate. Very happy with that and even if the further tests show the enlarged spleen is due to CLL, at least I know it definitely is that and I am getting the right treatment. She was astonished that is 6 years, none of the consultants I saw ever checked my spleen or lymph nodes.
