Sadly, after an amazing, courageous fight, my Dad passed away yesterday.
His eighth bout of pneumonia was too much for him, and he died peacefully and pain free. He made it to his 93rd birthday two weeks ago. Asked what presents he wanted, he said to reach 94!
Thank you all.. The support has been a great comfort during a difficult time.
Fight on everyone, Dad showed that a strong spirit still works when the DRs have nothing else to offer.

Oh Kate, I'm heartfelt sorry to hear that. What a guy he obviously was with his daughter fighting every step with him by his side. He gave the best and strongest fight back ever and despite the odds, came out ready for the next round until the grand old age of 93! I'm glad it was pain free.
You'll miss him massively but can be proud that he was a real CLL crusader. He obviously had a great deal to live for.

Thank you. He was an amazing man, and not because he was my dad! So many times the DRs gave him no chance, and he defied them again and again! We're sad because he died alone, but I think, to the end, he did it his way!

This has to be true because I should have died back in 2011 from pneumonia and I am still trying to get back to "normal" after pneumonitis and now some rare bacterium that sent my o2 level abnormal. My oncologist told the hospital doc I was at end of my disease process and here I am and when he saw me two weeks ago he said you look great! Maybe he used reverse psychology on me when I was in the hospital-not sure but I thought to myself-I show you I`m going to survive this. Now don`t get me wrong the feeling to give up is almost as strong! What gives me hope is that this life is not all there is. There`s the paradise that God has promised where there will be no more sickness, sorrow or death! Re. 21:3-5.
Thank you! Dad certainly showed that the human spirit can defy all the poor prognoses the doctors give! He fought til the very end, those who knew him , including doctors didn't know how he did it. So it must have been his own strength. To survive seven bouts of pneumonia twice with sepsis is unbelievable. The final eighth bout didn't get him without him fighting to the end, two days before he passed he was wanting out his bed, as he reckoned he wouldn't get better lying in bed all day!! Fight on!!!!

Good to know that he passed gently following a long and courageous fight. I'm sure your support helped him throughout and now you know he is beyond further pain or struggle. Be gentle with yourself as you come to terms with how life is for you now.
