Covid booster after positive status?

I had Covid about two months ago. I've read that one should wait six months before getting the latest booster. Does that apply to someone with CLL?

Thanks in advance for your response.

I would wait the full six months. Your recent bout with covid means you are protected. I recently read, confirmed by my oncologists PA, that those of us with CLL have reduced covid protection with each additional booster.

Waiting 6 months is appropriate but with respect to your second sentence, the advice from the CLL Society from Oct 2024 cllsociety.org/2024/10/cll-... is that: “Data continues to confirm the importance of vaccination to protect those most at risk for severe outcomes of COVID-19. Receiving recommended 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccines can restore and enhance protection against the virus variants currently responsible for most infections and hospitalizations in the United States. COVID-19 vaccination also reduces the chance of suffering the effects of Long COVID, which can develop during or following acute infection and last for an extended duration.”

I think the statement by your oncologist's PA, might be based on this July 2024 study that presents a much more complex story. Importantly, the reduced protection against COVID-19, is due to the progressive loss of immunity with CLL and not caused by having regular boosters. With my emphasis;

Exposure of progressive immune dysfunction by SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccination in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia: A prospective cohort study

pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articl...

Conclusions

CLL pathogenesis is characterized by a progressive loss of adaptive immune functions, including in most treatment-naïve patients, with preexisting memory being preserved longer than the capacity to mount responses to new antigens. In addition, higher NAb titers and response rates identify mRNA-1273 as a superior vaccine for CLL patients.

Thank you for your more nuanced response. I did not mean to imply that anyone should not get the vaccine. For me, it was a reminder to be careful in social, public situations.
