Now to your question: Non Hodgkin Lymphoma is a broad category of cancer that affects white blood cells, and CLL or SLL is the most common type of Non Hodgkin Lymphoma. The mention of platelets is confusing since platelets are produced by old Red Blood Cells as they die. As Non Hodgkin lymphomas grow over time, eventually those cells occupy too much of the bone marrow and will cause too few platelets. Or a condition can occur where some cancer cells cause the body's immune system to destroy platelets. Your friend should ask a hematologist doctor that speaks your language to explain the words in that report.
