Hi, stay strong, it will improve. Keep her clean and give medicine. Keep her away from infection etc. please ask questions.

Congratulations on the birth of your daughter. We also have a daughter with biliary atresia who is healthy and living a full life with her native liver (no transplant) and 12 years old . After kasai her poo took ages to turn dark green. Each child is different. Give Nana all your love, cherish every moment, make sure you give her all her medicines and on time and plenty of fluid. Don't let her get dehydrated. I breast fed and topped up with special milk. Do you have a specialist team in Ghana? If so, follow their advice. If not, ask if the medical team can get advice from a specialist in another country. ?one of the specialist units in the UK.

My thoughts and hopes are with you and your family. Please keep posting updates and ask any questions however small or silly you think they may be and I will try to help.

Take care x

Hi. My names Lynda and my beautiful Grandaughter Anastasia had the kasai procedure done nearly five weeks ago at Leeds at the age of seven weeks. She now back in Leeds with an infection but what I wanted to ask was is dark green poop normal or not as my daughter is beside herself with worry. Thank you so much x

Congratulations on becoming a grandparent. It's a really worrying time just after Kasai but try to enjoy time together too. Take lots of photos as it helps to see how far you have come. To answer your question Yes Dark green poo is good straight after kasai. Pale clay coloured stool is a concern and should be investigated ASAP. Any worries ask the medical team or you could ring CLDF for general advice and a stool colour chart. I was always told in regard to BA pale poo (grey/white) is bad: Dark poo is good. Our daughter had lots of infections (Cholangitis) after her kasai (her first was about a week post massive) but they were always treated with IV antibiotics and she always responded well. We are really lucky she is really well with her own liver and 12years old.

Take care

Thank you for your responses. We really appreciate it. They now say it's cholangitis she had and are treating it with IV antibiotics.Hopefully this works. Its heartbreaking to see her in so much pain.
