Cholesterol and Vitamin B3

Has anyone tried the Vitamen B3 (500mg) approach (Niacin, not nicotinamide). I am on a course now for 3 months having argued my case with my GP.

Ive become reasonably adjusted to the flushing discomfort after 3 weeks

Hi Ted

have you been taking B3 long, what dose? Can you get a test done to see the effect?

BTW, I am told that extended release Niacin is not as effective and the so called non flush variety (nicotinamide), definately doesnt work

Taking high dose niacin may increase the risk of a gout episode in those susceptible

What dose of quercetin?

In my case, I am taking Naproxen 500 pain relief tabs and I take one in the morning and about 2 hours after I take the Niacin tab after eating some food. I get a minimal flushing discomfort maybe an hour or two after and it last half an hour but is quite tolerable.

I dont take aspirin cos of the effect on the gut but I do take Omeprazol to combat the NSAID effect on the gut.

I`d try it if I could find out how to get some. None of the chemists in my area sell it.

this is what I used but I bought it from Solgar direct

solgaronline.co.uk/B3--Niac...

Niacin or sometimes called nicotinic acid, not any of the -amides or slow release, they dont work

Used to be part of Boots

they also have

This is natural medicine not pharma stuff, and its not quackery. Naturopathy got itself such a bad name. Just google and make your own mind up.

you see your gp could never recommend anything like this cos it doesnt have a proven clinical record and he open himself up to a law suit for malpratice

Sometimes you gotta fix it yourself, cos the pharmas aint gonna trial this, no profit for them

I've been considering taking B3 after encountering problems with the Atorvastatin and found this link doctoryourself.com/niacin.html which seem to give some useful info re taking B3, and on the strength of this, I have decided to order some, just looking for a good deal, both price-wise & quality.

Not what you're looking for?
