I doubt it very much. If you had high cholesterol and agreed to take then you have no argument.

Yes i know where your coming from but i did'nt ask for all the terrible side effects, they have tried me on all statins over the last 15 yrs and now they have left me with irreparable damage to my muscles and i can hardly use my left arm.

I think if you was in the States, you'd have absolutely no problem finding a solicitor to push a lawsuit!!

I agree with you that you didn't ask for the side effects, furthermore a lot of GP's still insist muscle damage doesn't occur due to statins!! the questions to ask are when did Statin companies know that their medicines could cause irrepairable damage to people, and when did they start informing us.

I personally think it was well after you started your trials with them!

There are many 'medical negligence' (ambulance chasers) companies out there they don't normally charge, but may not take a large action such as this on!! Could be worth giving them a ring though to see what they say.

Good luck

Tony

Hi Boo1161 / Dee,

Like you I'm very interested to hear from others who already have experience with sueing the pharma.

I think the best chance would be to find other statin victims (of the same sort of statin, same sort of manufacturer) and then see what could be done. While much will be dependent on the specific situations. I got it directly after a stroke. I was not asked anything but it was just given to me and I had no idea whatsoever about statins. in the hospital when given you won't even get any information about the pills given to you except for ' you need this'. another thing might be: are you cognitively hurt too? These side effects on the brains the pharma knew for long but they did not mention it but needed to be pushed by finally after a long time by the fda. Brain damage for example might make a bigger chance than muscle damge I guess.

Please keep us posted and/or contact me if you find out some more about this topic. I'm very interested. My problem will have to be handled in GB bc of simvastatin.

best wishes and don't lose hope please. i hope you're taking q10 (kaneka) and norwegian cod liver oil to hopefully heal.

Feel really sorry for those above who have had to deal with these issues (a recent study from the Netherlands reported 27% of statin users complained of side effects) .

Whilst at BetaBalance we offer a natural alternative to statins we certainly believe that they have their place, and are 'right' for some people.

I don't believe that the big drug companies should be without responsibility. But personally I don't think going down the US route of lawsuits and punitive damages is something that should be encouraged here.
