What was the last blood test numbers for total cholesterol and lipid numbers?

There are many devices available for cholesterol testing at home but expensive, how often do you want to test your cholesterol at home? The accuracy can be a problem.!!

First read on cholesterol to understand the lipid number.

Take care.

Hi and thank you for reply .I am in the dark about this all i have been told is my Cholesterol is 6.5 and to not eat egg and cheese plus I don’t want to give you statins which i never asked for anyway lol

Not very helpful at all really and its hard to even get a phone appointment at the moment .

So i thought if i got a monitor i might be able to keep an eye on it .

NHS Guide lines:

A GP can explain the blood test rusts, carry out risk analysis and offer life style change to control blood numbers.

Like you getting an appointment with a GP is also a problem where I live as well.

Human body makes 80 % of cholesterol from the body to manage day to day living. The other 20 % is from the food and drinks. We can control food and drinks intake to control blood numbers as well as regular exercise.

There is a formula total cholesterol = LDL + HDL + triglyceride / x.

Today there are many different ways to check for CVD.

Home testing the kit is affordable but the kit only comes with few test a strips, test strips can be expensive. There are private test available, this is also expensive but a package of health teats are are available, you can look for it on the Internet.

Depending on you age and other medical condition you can ask your GP for a referral for further blood tests. I am 76, I refused station therefore my GP practice will not go for additional tests.

Check what your cholesterol levels should be

Result Healthy level

Total cholesterol 5 or below

HDL (good cholesterol) 1 or above

LDL (bad cholesterol) 3 or below

Non-HDL (bad cholesterol) 4 or below

Take care.

Ten yeas ago I went to bluecrest for blood test package. This package can give a lot of information, I use to go for early morning check, because a fasting sample can be collected. The report gave me a good understanding also had access for full explanation.

I have a Kernel multi check, this device can do blood glucose, blood cholesterol, Uric acid and Hemoglobin. I bought this device mainly for Uric Acid as I get gout.

Take care.

I was diagnosed with high cholesterol since December 2016 and advised to go on statins, which I declined. My named doctor at the GP practice was very helpful and supportive, respecting my decision not to take statins. whilst also reminding me of the job statins do. I've never tried home cholesterol testing, I would be worried about the reliability. Nowadays, I just try to live a healthy life, however the important thing I do, is to take an annual cholesterol blood test which I book through my GP. Cholesterol is not something to be ignored and needs to be checked.

Thank you.

Continue you hard work on maintaining your blood test numbers.

In my GP practice, blood is taken any time of the therefore it is not fasting blood test.

Because I have refused statin, I do not qualify for fasting blood cholesterol and lipid test.

I get Total cholesterol test only. Also non HDL- C is calculated as this is a new guide line.

It seems that the GP surgeries work in different ways. I am fortunate, even though I have refused statins, to have the fasting blood cholesterol and lipid test. I have my test for this year on 17th June.

I have my six monthly blood test on 1st June 2022. would it be possible to discuss my blood test and your blood test towards the end of June.?

Just got my cholesterol results:

Serum lipid levels

Serum cholesterol level 6.25 mmol/L = 241.69 mg/dL

Serum triglyceride levels 1.05 mmol/L [0.3 - 2.3]

Serum HDL cholesterol level 1.78 mmol/L [1.15 - 1.68]

Above high reference limit

Serum cholesterol/HDL ratio 3.51

Serum LDL cholesterol level 3.99 mmol/L 3.99 mmol/L = 154.29 mg/dL

Non HDL Cholesterol 4.47 mmol/L

My usual concern is The LDL, though it has come down a little. My GP advised:

"Your cholesterol level is high but does not warrant medication for it at present."

Yes, it would be possible to discuss both tests end of June. I keep all my results together, and I found some rather good online calculators that work out the results to give a very good indication of what the results mean.
