I believe you can have a calcium plaque buildup in arteries independent of cholesterol but am prepared to be corrected if anyone knows the facts.

Inflammation is the real enemy but you are right, it isn't just high levels of cholesterol that cause plaque everydayhealth.com/high-cho...

They dont think its heart disease but all they have done is blood xray ekg and heart monitor

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

I wasn't suggesting heart disease as an issue. inflammation can effect various different functions/systems other than the heart. health.com/health/gallery/0... In some respects inflammation is good for you. It is part of the repair process but, when it gets out of hand, can lead to unwanted side effects. A common cause of inflammation are life choices. As such lifestyle changes can control, even reverse, the damage caused without recourse to pharmaceuticals - don't let your medical professionals tell you otherwise. The gut is often the root of health issues and repairing or optimising that is a good place to start.

Im 20 with no history of medical issues my docs are telling me im worrying about something that not even there maybe Iam maybe im not ya know

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

An excellent time to look into how lifestyle effects health then. You can catch the problems before they happen and avert all future issues :)

Yes I do know. Medicos do not 'know it all' and often do not have the answer. They are good at mending broken legs providing they make the correct diagnosis in the first place but, often, their answer to everything is yet another bottle of pills. Pills are not the answer they are cracked up to be but worry can create problems in and of itself.

Do what I said about looking into healthy lifestyles and looking after your gut (lots and lots on the internet) and you'll make sure you never succumb to whatever it is you are worrying about having.

Take care :)

But even thou you ant a doctor what your opinion of a 20 year old having coronary artery disease? ?

My dad died at my age from heart disease but he was born with it I wasnt

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

if you weren't born with the health issues your father had then you aren't going to die of the same problem. They say that worry is like a rocking horse - it gets you nowhere but worry can cause health problems. You need to stop worrying about dying before it kills you. At this stage in life you probably have more chance of being run over by a bus.

Shane, go and see a cardiologist - a heart doctor. He will measure your heart through an EKG while you are cycling on an ergometer, and in the meantime if you have chest or back pains that increase with excercise (for example) that are similar to indigestion then go to the E&E - the ER or hospital.

The risk of heart disease is increasing in younger people because of current lifestyle habits but providing you are healthy and not obese your risk is no greater than any other fit person's. To lower your risk you need to ensure that yours is a healthy lifestyle - exercise regularly (rebounding is the best) and walk instead of taking the car for short journeys under a couple or so miles, don't smoke, don't drink alcohol on a regular basis and never more than 1 unit at a time, eat varied & plentiful amount of fruit and vegetables (particularly raw and including washed skin), increase your consumption of omega 3 oils whilst reducing any omega 6s, cut sugar (and sugar replacements) and processed foods & carbohydrates from your diet entirely, get out into the sun for at least 20 minutes a day

I understand but I mean for me to have build up to a level that's dangerous would I have to have other problems

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

Shane given the details you have supplied, if you read what I have written, between the two replies above I think that I have already answered that question. Follow the link provided, inputting your personal information, and you will get your current % risk of having a heart attack anytime soon.

If you want to be healthy then live healthy. If you want to put your health at risk then eat junk, get drunk, do drugs, smoke, sit on your butt all day every day and never let the sun shine down upon you.

Your body is constantly renewing itself. It spends your life repairing any damage that your lifestyle does to it. There may come a time when the damage you do exceeds your body's ability to repair itself but, if you stop doing damage, it will do its best to ensure that you live to appreciate the effect any of the positive changes listed above can bring about.

I have done those tests alto of em that one was 6% and the others was less than 1

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

well there you go then. Providing you take care of yourself and stop worrying yourself into an early grave you are very unlikely to pop off with a heart attack in the foreseeable future.

Great news isn't it :)

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

Yes but I'm a hypochondriac I can't seem to stop thinking I have a artery clogging up maybe its just stress and i have anxiety bad to

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

I gathered.

Your hypochondria is probably a knock on effect of your anxiety and if you could deal with the latter the former would probably become manageable. To be honest we are (just about) all touched with a little hypochondria - where do you think 'man flu' comes from - it is just that most of use manage to control it.

I reiterate what I said above about healthy lifestyle, stressing the comment about omega 3. Your diet should be predominantly consist of highly varied fruits and vegetables. Meats should be organic and fish wild caught. Avoid carbohydrates, especially processed ones and sugars or sweeteners. (The gluten in grains can be responsible for or aggravate anxiety.) Exercise releases endorphins into the bloodstream. Endorphins make you feel better and less anxious.

A LOT of issues start with a poor gut microbiome so look to improving yours with the fruit/veg changes and probiotics like kefir. There is lots of information on the internet about improving your microbiome. Check out vitamins, like B12, and minerals, like selenium, that affect anxiety but try to get them from natural food sources not processed supplements as these do not always work as well as intended. Get some real sunshine to build up your vitamin D levels naturally.

To calm your anxiety flare-ups look at using essential oils like lavender (or other less fragrant ones like chamomile) and bach flower remedies. Bach flower rescue remedy is an excellent (instant) control for anxious situations - drip 4 drops onto your tongue and rub another 1 or 2 onto your lips in advance of, or at the onset of, an attack then add some to a glass of water and sip as needed until under control. Again there is a lot of this type of intervention on the internet.

I'm just scared in gonna have a heart attack anytime soon

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

Shane you are repeating yourself and this is ground we have already gone over. Repeating myself will not make what I have said any less true. If you don't want to take the advice I have given that is fine but it is not going to change.

You have done the tests. Even a 6% chance means a 94% probability you won't.

At 20 you are old enough to look for your own information and young enough to know how to do it however here are some stats on premature heart disease health.harvard.edu/heart-he... As you read it will should note that most of the issues relate to poor lifestyle - as I have already suggested.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

I meant I want your opinion on it just what you think the chances are!!!

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

The only opinion that matters here is your own but I personally think that the chances of you having a heart attack before you are in your old age are currently pretty low, but that does rely upon you looking after yourself as I have suggested about.

If, instead, you decide to eat junk food, lots of sugar and get no exercise you will still not die tomorrow but you will likely ruin your chances of becoming a grandfather.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

I mean im just wanting ppls opinion of the plaque build up in my arteries or something

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

As I said before, that is old ground. The first person who responded answered your question and I confirmed it. If you want to minimise any likelihood of plaque build-up then you need to maintain a healthy regimen. Check out what has already been written with regar to that.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

I get that i get that!! All I want to know is at my age if there is plaque build up how bad would it be right now in your own opinion

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

Shane it is highly unlikely that you have any health issues relating to this matter but I am not psychic, neither can I see through walls or around corners. If you want to ensure that any calcium in your blood stream is not making plaques then take vitamin k2. Vitamin k2 ensures that calcium is laid down in bone. Because k2 is a fat soluble vitamin it needs to be taken with fat/oil to ensure that it is properly absorbed.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

Is it pills that I can get from a store the vitamin stuff I do have anxiety bad my doc thinks that is what it is

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

Your doctor is probably right.

Yes can can buy vitamin k2 from a chemist or health store.

drjohnday.com/9-signs-you-m...

The suggestions I have made above will help with your general health and anxiety.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to linlow

I really do hate living with anxiety and stress I mean I don't know if a cbc helps docs much but they did the basic tests and all seemed well

linlow profile image
linlow in reply to Shane2014

then get off that rocking horse. You have access to the internet and there is plenty of information out there so go looking and educate yourself.

Whilst you are at it look into how gut health, diet and exercise can help control, even counter, anxiety. I have given you some tips already to start you off. Now use that anxiety to research those and more ideas for yourself. Then to do something about it.

Right I need to its killing me for sure causing me lots of problems

kate2604 profile image
kate2604 in reply to Shane2014

Worrying about having a heart attack is more likely to have a heart attack due to the stress you are putting your heart through. My advice is to stop looking on internet for health issues that you may or may not have. Go live life, eat healthy, exercise and enjoy your life. One sure thing is you will die eventually. Hopefully not tomorrow while you have your head looking at your phone looking for answers to when you will get heart disease and not seeing a bus or car hit you. Go live life.

We r more likely to be involved in an attack from Isis before you have a clogged artery at such a young age. Ur numbers r pretty good. Stress is a major onset of alot of things so stop the stressing. If you cant go walk til u r so tired u cant stress.

kate2604 profile image
kate2604

I have read some of your other posts, what I find fascinating about you is that you are only worried about having high cholesterol. Your father had a heart defect and heart problems which you are paranode over getting because you witnessed his health problems and felt left as a child and you do not want this to happen to your daughter. Now for my fascination, you smoke! No mention of the risks of smoking does to your health in any of your high cholesterol. No mention of getting cancer from smoking, leaving your daughter with the same problems to deal with. You are worrying over the damaged heart your father had and worrying it would happen to you. This is the real source of your problem - over thinking the wrong problem. You need counselling. What is wrong with you is, you are still in the grief process from your father and the experience you had as a child. Seek counselling not medication.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to kate2604

I dont smoke anymore I quit...I do have chest pain everyday not bad but its there my doc wobt do test cause they think its stress and anxiety related but Idk my cholesterol is good but what about the plaque in the arteries

kate2604 profile image
kate2604 in reply to Shane2014

The Drs are telling you there is nothing wrong with you. Your anxiety is thought based. Go see a counsellor who are better at explaining it to you.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to kate2604

It gets scary sometimes I know that

kate2604 profile image
kate2604 in reply to Shane2014

And its because your anxiety is high that is putting the stress on the heart that is causing he pain in your chest. You have to get rid of the anxiety to stop the pains. Go see a counsellor, they are not scary people. Tell them everything about your past history and why you have anxiety and they will help.

Shane2014 profile image
Shane2014 in reply to kate2604

Good idea thanks I gotta get rid of this stuff

I have been told -also by a GP- that there are many causes of plaque being present in the arteries. Even in children it is possible to have plaque build up with the culprit being simply illness or stress.
