I can't see how that would reduce cholesterol Rocheen but, if everyone who responds to your post lets us know how their bodies reacted to Resperate, it might throw light on the subject.

Cholesterol comes into our body from the food we eat. Food intake control can reduce cholesterol if we want to reduce cholesterol! Can machines reduce cholesterol? I am not sure!

Cholesterol is too important for the body to leave it to be provided by food. The body makes cholesterol in the liver. Any cholesterol in the food we eat has little effect on the total amount in our bodies.

You'e quite right, although if you starve your body of much of the food that makes cholesterol it might well affect the livers output. I have atherosclerosis which is the likely end factor in having too much plaques in the arteries causing them to become narrower and eventually blocked. (one of carotid arteries is 70 % blocked) There is of course the risk of plaque braking away to cause either heart attack or a stroke although these can be caused by blood clots forming in the arteries. So eating correctly; keep the weight down; exercise without going over the top;stop smoking as the chemicals can damage the lining of the arteries which allows the plaque to adhere more easily, and try not to get stressed. Of course there is the big factor of family history being a cause. But that can still be addressed by taking charge of your health as far as possible. I've lived a pretty healthy life style, so why have got artery disease? I'm nearly 90 and of course we all have to die of something. Best of luck.

Thank you for giving us your experience, if I may ask a question how, what tests did the cardiologist do to identify this "one of carotid arteries is 70 % blocked?"

It is quite simple: You are given a ultra scan which shows the plaque build up in the carotid arteries. It's not often,or in fact unlikely, a young person would have anything like the degree that a have . When I was 82 a scan showed the build up to be low to medium. It progessed quickly in the last few yours. So don't worry, just do the sensible things. but there is good reason to have the state of your arteries checked in later in life. My first check was done by a private health company who travel around the country. They advertise on the internet and you pay in advance when booking an appointment. Good luck

I have had lots of mail delivered from these private companies but thought it might be a scam. Did it benefit you?

There are a number of health screening advertise in the news paper and also letters to your home. I tried two different companies just to check. I was only impressed with one company in the was the report was written.

Yes there is benefit for me just to have a base line!

They say you have access to qualified people to ask questions, this works but not very good.

NHS should be able to offer this but I was not offered. I managed to get a stress test and echo cardio gram on NHS. The big question is the qualification of the people who are doing the test on a given day.

I may go for another scan in two years time just to check on any change! GP may not believe on this! I gave a copy of my results to GP, it is in the computer system.
