How important is Oral Health to avoid heart health problems?

Any one had experience of oral health problems leading to heart health problems?

ive been told by papworth hospital they now know oral health is related to heart problems i had bleeding gums every day i took coq10 supplement ive not seen any blood from my gums for over a year now it really works

I think the evidence so far is "related to" and not "leading to" though isn't it? It seems fairly likely that if you're in poor health generally then you could have both heart and oral problems, or that if you're stressed (not good for the heart) then you might not be spending the time taking care of your teeth and gums, or other things like the coq10 pathway being impaired by coa-impairing heart-related drugs.

it is now becoming very clear that the mouth is the gateway to all sorts of health issues in the body. For many years it is known that cancers of the mouth and throat have been detected in the dentist's surgery! Now, with more modern techniques and dental training dentists listen to their patients and can detect from their history health issues not necessarily relating to the teeth.
