Hi Joanna

I have an article here that talks about recent medical research studying heart patients with severe carotid artery blockages. I don't know where it came from but suspect it was from this web site (if anyone reading this can identify it please let me know). It states that pomegranate juice, just one fluid ounce a day will lower cholesterol, blood pressure and increase the speed at which heart blockages (atherosclerosis) melts away. It was a year long trial so not a quick fix, I have been taking it for 7 months and feel it is working. Worth a try imho....a bottle of POM from tesco or Morrisons etc. will cost approx. £3 and last several weeks at that rate. I stopped statins and started Pom last Feb, it has taken 7 months to get over the side effects of statins and I really am amazed at the difference in my body and most importantly my mind since stopping statin poison. And pomegranate juice is very tasty;)

I wonder if eating the fruit would have the same effect? The juice has a high sugar content which may be a problem for some people.

According to the article the beneficial components, found only in pomegranates are called punicalagins. I guess you would have to eat a stack of pom seeds to get the equivalent and it is only 1 fluid ounce a day of the juice.

Go for Asian vegetables and spice, you will be supervised how this can help you!, no rice, no bread, some protein.

If you cut down on your carbohydrates you will lose weight and improve your cholesterol levels. If you need carbs, go for low GI carbohydrates.

I have found since following a dairy free diet (due to IBS) I have seen my LDL levels go down, and my HDL levels go up. Also I have been able to eat a much healthier, more natural diet without the side effects that a dairy diet gave me. I take Omega 3 Tablets as I am not a great fish eater, except for the occasional piece of salmon now and then. I drink oat milk as soya milk tastes like UHT and far too sweet, even the unsweetened sort! Soya yogurts are OK and the Soya plain yogurt is a good replacement for cream. I hope this all helps.
