Oh this darned heat...

i like to see the good weather but to be sat around outside lolling around for hours is my worst nightmare, and people wanting a tan i cannot understand, they usually end up like a beetroot and skin peeling off their arms and legs and their hair looking a greasy mess.

i much prefer to be pale and interesting than a plant pot full of wilting flower...although.....

I watch all the goings on from my windows, and living on a coastal path i see a lot of goings on,from screaming unruly kids to equally unruly adults, who leave their litter everywhere.Where do these people live,is it in a cave or a dirty hovel, because as they so love the great outdoors they poo and pee in it,expecting others to clear up their stinky mess.

I think when this lockdown is lifted i still wont venture far ,and i will certainly be avoiding any city centres because nowhere seems to be safe.

The World is lovely, the people not so much.

I’m with you secrets and can understand people needing to get out of the house but not to travel miles in sweltering heat to sit up close and personal with others on a beach! It’s beyond stupidity.

People are pretty disgusting at times and lack respect for others and themselves too really. Awful!

Pete and I are staying where we are and have no desire to rush to the shops, restaurants or beach. I do appreciate the need for many to try and get back to some sort of normality but only by following the guidance on social distancing etc.

Wishing you well and I’m glad it’s cooler today. Xxxxx

He secrets22,

Oh, it's been trying hasn't it, for those of us who don't do well in heat. It was so pleasing to me to hear rain in the night and to sleep more comfortably.

I couldn't agree more about the question of litter and general carelessness around rubbish. It begins in the block of flats I live in, with people so lazy they accumulate big bags of it indoors and when it stinks, put it, leaking, on the carpet outside the door in the corridor for hours before deigning to take it to the bin store. And we have a lift! Then every park, and green open space is left at the end of an average summer day festooned with the detritus of their day's activity with the expectation that a magic fairy comes and cleans it all up for them.

There are other questions about the numbers of people flocking to open spaces, but just focusing on the sheer volume of litter left behind them is a national disgrace. And it's a disgrace not so much because they did it, but because for at least one whole generation, civic pride has not been instilled from a young age into our citizens. Surely the result of that can be clearly seen now?

Well, rant over secrets22. It's all well outside of my control and being enraged does nothing to change the situation, but I hate it so much!

I'm pleased it's cooled a little for you and I hope you are feeling more comfortable now too. Take care and it was good to hear from you. 🙏

More than one generation - when the Rolling Stones came on the scene it became uncool to care about litter - don't know now if it was them or someone else but the Beatles had clean hair and the Stones did not'

somehow we have never managed to claw it back. As a society we have got so used to having servants that some of us don' think it is our job to clear up after ourselves.

Servants? yes, people to cook our meals, service our cars, walk our dogs mow our lawns, make our clothes, wash our hair, paint our houses.... all things previous generations had to do themselves .

It seems to have left us willing to laugh our heads off at the idea of Royalty having toothpaste put on their toothbrush but feeling just as entitled about our personal rubbish

I have though further about this. We have been taught that is it right to leave it there. I remember in the cinema I went to as a teeneager it was ok to leave the popcorn packet under the seat to be picked up by the cleaners in the morning- Nowhere else but think of places like Glastonbury and other big events. It is actually cheaper for the organisers to clean up all the mess at the end in one go than it is to keep the rubbish bins empty at all times. So not only is it not disrespectful to park your grot - it is actually what they prefer you to do....So whole generations of people learn to just walk off and leave it.

Hey secrets22! Couldn't agree more with your sentiments, and it must be awful to actually watch people doing these things at the best of times, never mind in a pandemic (that they're clearly immune to. They can't all be part of the Cummings family??) It always amazes me that people can carry full bags/containers/cartons to the location of their choice, but the empty versions are far too heavy to carry back to the car/waste bins...use the bags to contain the litter my dears! And these are probably people on furlough or have lost their jobs who you would think would be a little more mindful of money?

We have been incredibly lucky with the weather, and we are incredibly lucky to still have green spaces open to the public. But are these people who litter what we have been given going to stump up for the cost of what they are doing now? I'm lucky enough to have a garden and guess what? There's no litter there! I'm not going away on holiday but guess what? I haven't had a real holiday for 5 years. I haven't been to see the sea or lakes or reservoirs but guess what? They're going nowhere this year either!

lell1...i hear you,i have not had a break for over 5 years and i cannot see that changing in the near future, and although we used to travel often,i have no wish to go very far now, in fact, really,i am a home body,i love my home, and i'm very content as i am ...kind of?

It is what it is eh? No point wishing for something that is not available to us at this time. I love my garden and spend as much time as I can there. No packing, no etickets, no booking forms, no waiting for 2 hours (or more if a delay occurs !) no delays come to that! There will come a time when I have a choice, n even then we're always glad to get home huh?
