I watched it last night about Wharton Hall. It was devastating to watch. Those people were paid to provide a safe and happy environment for its residents and all they got was torture and abuse.

I say that we should demand cameras in all of these care facilities. I also say the cameras should be put into bedrooms. Safety is more important than modesty. Don't give these low life's a safe place to torture.

It is about time we woke up to this very real threat to our loved ones. It only takes one bad apple.

That sounds terrible Lynd. Hope the perpetrators get what they deserve. Disgraceful. Xx

Hi Lynd,

It really is a shocking thing, isn't it, and it's certainly not the first time that this sort of abuse has been uncovered. It does make anyone of right mind shudder in horror that any human would choose to do this to another, and especially when those people are so vulnerable.

I'm not sure I go all the way with you over the cameras though. I think they can be very useful, but it's not the most dignified thing to be watched by cameras the whole time. I think we need to employ other methods to make sure that the sort of person who is employed in such an establishment is the kind of humane person who would not think for one second to be so cruel and who would feel confident enough to 'blow the whistle' on anyone who even suggests such a thing. And more robust training so that difficult situations are dealt with in a proper manner.

In addition, we should all be very vigilant when we have loved ones being cared for by others. Quite often there can be signs in them, like reticence or agitation that suggest things aren't too good.

But yes, truly horrifying, and isn't it good that there are teams who uncover abuses like this and bring them to public attention?

The problem for the whistle blowers is very often they can't find work.

They were interviewing a man on the BBC this morning who was a whistle blower and he can't find work now.
