Careers allowance?

I have just contacted careers allowance dept to see if I am able to claim for looking after my son, he gets full disability allowance with a mobility component plus sea, he doesn't live with me , he has his own flat, but he is very dependent on me for everyday living, (ie) washing ironing cooking cleaning financial handling of money bills etc.

I do work 12 hours per week, and until now my mom has looked after all his needs, but she is no longer able due to her health issues, I enquire do with the careers allowance dept, to see if I could claim for looking after my son, I was informed I could claim £62.70, but they would take that from my sons benefit if I did so, I would add my mom couldn't claim as she was a pensioner.

I can only draw the conclusion there is no real careers allowance, as you might just as well tell the person you do care for they have to pay you a wage. If I am wrong, and there is a way to claim could someone send me a post on this

Welcome to this community. I'm sorry that you having a difficult time trying to find out information to help you care for your son. Unfortunately, your story is similar to many folks, and the Benefits system doesn't seem to make it easy to understand or to get the entitlements. You need to get expert advice. Take a look at our Pinned Posts section on the right-hand side of this screen. Click on the links to 'Ask the Expert' and 'Carer for life expert', this will take to someone who has expertise in this matter. Also, you may want to look at the two links about Carer's Allowance facts. Another useful source maybe to speak to a local Citizen's Advice Bureau advisor who can give free, impartial advice .
