Mum was being seen at home by the NHS podiatrist arranged through the community health people, they didn't visit when she was in hospital, I've rung them this morning to get it re-instated, they know mum's in a care home and they have visited her there her last appt being approximately 2 1/2 weeks after being seen by the private chiropodist, I'll speak to my sister later but I think a letter to the home and their head office is in order, to stop the private visits happening, and work out whether we should pay the latest bill (it's less than £20)

What makes it worse is the community health people ring the home prior to the appt to ensure mum is there and not at a hospital appt, so someone must have been aware that she was being seen by both an NHS and private chiropodist.

I would definitely follow Mydexter's advice and ring the home and explain the situation and cancel the private visits, as your mother is entitled to free NHS Foot Care. I am mystified that the care home has picked up on this and alerted you to this, surely its duty of care, and as has been said the case of the right hand not knowing what were left hand's doing. Out of interest you have enduring power of attorney for your mum, because if you do requesting that the care home contact you before they make any decisions on behalf of your mother the to comes through you. Just some thoughts really. Hope this helps.
