I did not fully appreciate the challenges that elderly people face when leaving their safe place (home) to spend time with their families at Christmas, be patient!

I know what you mean. My dad has recently been in hospital and came out with a catheter. It is taking him a while to come to terms with it but his pride won't let him just discuss it or mention when he is feeling uncomfortable. It's like having a small child, being alert to the signs of discomfort. You are acutely aware of everyone else's reactions too. Exhausting stuff when you have just spent the last couple of days shopping, prepping and cooking big Christmas dinner that you want everyone to enjoy. Patience is certainly needed. .
