how to reduce side effects of radio therapy?

my father taken radio therapy and chemo therapy for advanced aderno carcinoma in neck but now their situation is critical anybody advice me to how to reduce side effects of radio therapy?

thanks abhi...i have one more question radio therapy is done and its passed away six month but till now he is not able to take water also..he take pain killer and then take some milk ...this is normal or what ..in radio therapy..how much time mostly take to recover side effect of radio therapy..thanks again...
