New Air escaping sounds in left ear along with pulsating tinnitus…is this down to my veins & weight gain over the last 12 months? Help!

Hi all. I posted here a few times during the very beginning of this Tinnitus journey & your comments, advice & support helped me through those darkest days. I have unfortunately found myself back in this dark place 16 months on from the onset of T. I found everything improved a lot & started enjoying my life again…however over the past few months I have a new sound in my left ear which sounds like air escaping/being released. I noticed it once in a while at night & sometimes when I leaned my hand against my neck whilst watching tv. The pressure on my neck caused the sounds but now those annoying sounds are here all day long without a break & it’s making me feel so anxious 😕 I feel like I’ve come to terms with those original sounds, they really calmed down BUT I’m wondering if these air releasing sounds are linked to veins & pulsatile Tinnitus??? Obviously I’m aware stress & anxiety can make T seem much worse, but it’s driving me nuts because if I knew what was causing it, I could do something about it. Would really like to know if anyone has similar experiences? I’m overweight & need to lose weight…hoping this will help xXx

Hello , I’ve had my tinnitus just about the same time as you . Like you say you felt you mastered it and now you’ve got all this upset again making you anxious. I can relate to all you are saying and can sympathise because it’s so horrible. I do believe you and I are certainly not alone with this weird condition with it’s funny air pressure . Have you been to see the ENT clinic to get checked out. I had to pay privately to get mine checked a bit quicker. As you know getting anxious will only increase the t , have a chat with your gp. Don’t sit there suffering alone . I am sure many more will write to you on here with their thoughts too. Please just calm down , chatting on this site and going for doggie walks listening to the outside beautiful sounds has helped me. I get good days and bad days , we are all the same, your not alone , Goodnight. 😊

Hiya rabbits65, Thankyou for your reply. 😊

Sorry to hear you’ve had similar experiences. These things are sent to try us I’m sure! I’m really trying to calm myself as I have two children who rely on me.

I’ve had CT scan recently where they found enlarged vessels on my left side of my neck & then was referred for an MRI. They then discussed my large vessels but came to the conclusion that this wasn’t causing my Pulsatile Tinnitus but I beg to differ. I do have an ENT appointment in a few weeks as a follow up, so will be discussing these new sounds but I don’t feel as though it will matter to them. I’ve got ear calmers & wearing one in my left ear does tone the sound down. Really hoping this calms down again x 🤞 x

I have had pulsatile tinnitus for 7 months, seems like a constant pumping up a tyre 24/7. As rabbits65 says it is important to get out and do things which helps distract from the sound. Mine was due to a tortuous blood vessel in my neck, discovered via an ultrasound but is in an inoperable place. This was private consultation but it is nice to know the cause. My remedy was music from my phone through the Aftershokz headphones which transmit through your cheekbones. An advantage as you can still be aware of conversation, T.V. and traffic coming. Also sleep pillow gentle sounds help at night but it is really important to be busy during the day to make you tired. Best Wishes.

Hiya Non-Leaguer,

Yes definitely agree keeping busy does help. I’ve been stuck at home sick, so the everything is getting on top of me. I’m sorry to hear about your tortuous blood vessel…is there any way to help accept surgery? It’s good to know the reason as that can help in a way…it’s frustrating not knowing 😕 I too have the aftershokz headphones & have used them previously during spikes and they were helpful. I have hyperacusis & wear calmers in my ears which certainly help me feel calmer when feeling irritated by noises xXx Thanks for your reply, hoping things improve for you xx

Hi FallenAngel. Sorry you're having a tough time. Can I ask - What are ear calmers? Thank you.

Hi there,

They are by Flare Audio and they have different ear pieces/accessories. I believe they were originally made for people to wear before headphones for a clearer sound…but take a look at their website, they can help people with tinnitus & sound sensitivity Xx

Thanks! Sad to say the blood vessel that is tortuous is close to a main artery. So the risk would be too great for any operation. My mind is now adapting to the puffing noise. I am retired and absolutely determined not to let this get me down. Keep up the communication with others as we are all here to help cope with any problems that people want to share.
