I've recently taken Doxycycline, and feel that it may have made my tinnitus worse. I would be interested to know if anybody else has had the same experience and if so did your condition improve with time?
Antibiotics: I've recently taken Doxycycline... - Tinnitus UK
Antibiotics
Well Yes I think you are right . I just completed a 7 day course of the antibiotic called Nitrofurentin ( sorry wrong spelling). I definitely think mine is a little worse , however mine is severe anyway and can’t get much worse . Try not to worry because worrying will only increase the tinnitus as well. 😊
Hi AstroguyI have learn from experience that all anti-biotics increase the severity of my T. I am, however, safe with pennicilin. The good news is that the T spike seems to subside after a month or so.
Doxycycline is on the American Tinnitus Association's list of drugs, herbs and chemicals that are associated with tinnitus. This list disappears from time to time, but here's a link:

I recommend downloading it while it's still available!
It takes any drug a while to work its way out of the body, so give it time.Do bear in mind that if you've not been well and additionally taking OTC drugs such as paracetamol, aspirin and/or ibuprofen, these are also listed as ototoxic and can amplify T.
Prescribed aspirin, particularly, has this effect on me. It wears off soon after I stop taking it.
My (medically untrained) advice is not to stress and drink lots of water. Get the chemicals flushed out of your system.
I have just finished a 15 day treatment with Metronidazol and Azathromycin and from the list I can read that they are ototoxic 🥺 . My tinnitus has gone crazy , a lot more noisy now. I have already a servere tinnitus 24/7. I hope that tinnitus will get lower with time.🙏 Hope your tinnitus will get lower again.
Metrodonisdale made me very poorly and I had to stop taking it. I’ve recently taken nitrofurenton for a urine infection and I noticed my T was worse . We are told to relax and not worry about anything and T will calm down , however some of these other infections have to be treated and what are we supposed to do , try and ignore the horrendous T then !!!’ Medicines have to be taken Don’t they .
Thank you for your answer . It calms me down. 😊 I did not know that Metronidazol had this tinnitus side effect. In fact the purpose for this treatment was an attempt to clear the eustacian tubes, as I have closed tubes and audible mucus in the tubes. Unfortunately, not a lot has changed. But the noise has.😣 Hope it will be better 🙏
