Does day time catch up snoozing make the sounds it worse for you?

I am 61 and not on any medician butI've been having a hissing in my head for about 5 months it does go away for a day or two if I'm lucky each weak. When it started I was feeling very stressed partly because of the sounds and partly because of circumstances in real life. Since this lockdown, I've been having trouble sleeping getting only about 4 hours.

I do have OCD some times but not often but it did get worse since lockdown... I trying to stop this now for relaxation and also I did drink more alcohol in lockdown but once again trying to cut back still having a little wine to relax etc.

I just wondered if anybody experience this if I'm tired during the day and I tried to have a little snooze I usually wake up to a worsening of the sound you would think relaxation would help! so it's making me a little bit scared of trying to snooze during the day... If I do have a good night's sleep I can't wake up and find the sounds of reduced. or sometimes gone.

Any advice welcome

Hi inBradford

Thank you for your post on the BTA forums.

I think a lot of people here are dealing with similar issues - tinnitus can be active if you can't sleep at night and be very loud when you have been able to get some rest. It's a bit of a no win situation, sometimes.

Relaxing is going to help, and there's no real evidence to say that you shouldn't enjoy a drink in moderation as part of your winding-down process before going to bed.

The one thing that I would suggest is that trying to sleep during the day can cause problems for your normal sleep cycle - a power nap is fine but anything of more than an hour's duration may interrupt your sleep later on in the day.

Over to the BTA community for their input...

Thank you very much Pat for the advice, my main aim is to try and get a good nights sleep and I understand to relax as much as possible do you advise any particular book that's good for the overall subject of how to deal with it. I got book medication that can be difficult under the circumstances in silence. Best regards Alan

Hi Alan - you're not being dim! Although our forum is hosted by Health Unlocked, they are an independent organisation. We don't require log-in details for our tinnitus.org.uk website at the moment - it's a common source of confusion, which we're looking into.
