Will Amitriptyline worsen Tinnitus?

I have tinnitus for around 5 months, initially on my left ear and now things are getting much better and the tinnitus is reduced to some low volume background high pitch. However, I also have some family issues and cannot sleep well in the last few weeks, and the family doctor prescribe 25mg Amitriptyline. I sleep very well after taking this on the first day but on the fifth day, my tinnitus get worse and become more intrusive especially at night. Then I stop taking Amitriptyline on the sixth day until now. I also read from different Tinnitus websites about anti-depressants can worsen tinnitus! I think I am among those cases. I am going to the my ENT doctor for more professional advice and prescription. Are there drugs which help tinnitus patients to sleep without worsening the tinnitus?

I've used amitriptyline and can't say I see any relation to it and tinnitus level. Mostly it helps me sleep though I have prescription for 10mg, with option to take 2 of I want.

Funnily enough not sleeping great just now

I take one Benadryl at night it knocks me right out. No side effects.

I’m one that anti depressants are the only help. I take Aprazolam. .025 twice a day

And it lowers my T and helps with sleep.

I wish the medical field would do reasearch and find a cure for this.

It affects everyone in my family.

Sometimes I can’t sleep in my bed with my wife cause of the silence which in turn makes the T much louder. Sleeping meds

Make it unbearable when I wake up the T is so loud so I cannot take them.

It’s Terrible what we go through with this affliction. And nobody can understand!
