Yes I have read previously that Nortriptyline is a drug that may quiet things a bit.

If you google ‘nortriptyline tinnitus’ I’m sure you will find plenty of hits but as always use them as a guide only, as what works for one may be different for others.

My wife who has musical tinnitus currently takes 25mg of amitriptyline which she finds helpful with maintaining sleep patterns. Our GP said she could try nortriptyline but that the sedative effect is less, so currently she is staying on the amitriptyline as sleep had become a major problem.

Please do keep us posted on how you get on.

Thankyou so much for your reply. I agree with your wife, sleep is very important.

hi Scarlett, ive had both and sadly they didn't work. nortriptaline is a mider form of amitriptaline as I remember I troed them both for a while but no success, I think it was to help theT and help me sleep on which the both failed miserably. you might have more luck as my T is extreme;ly loud andive not found anything to take to reduce it yet so I just have to suffer it but good luck with yours. Take care Crawford.

Hi Scarlett,

Yes one of the members of our tinnitus group was given nortriptyline to replace amitriptyline and she did better on the nortriptyline.

Hope you find it helps you too.

Scarlett,

A very well respected moderator on the other Tinnitus forum has taken it for a while. She has stated on numerous occasions that it helped her head tinnitus....if that helps. Please do keep us posted on how you get on.
