saline for nebulising

Morning everyone, I’m a newbie at nebulising having been helped immensely by my friends on this forum. I’ve been prescribed 0.9 isotonic solution. I’ve had some success at improving my chest clearance but those mucus plugs are very stubborn! On researching I’ve read that saline hypertonic 7% is much more effective. I just wanted to know what others are using and whether I should suggest an upgrade when I next see my resp consultant.

Thank you everyone as always Jo xx

In my opinion 7% is better than 0.9% saline. Check out this video from Dr McShane on the various methods of airway clearance. google.com/search?q=airway+...

Hi Jo,

I bought 7% from Amazon whilst waiting to see the consultant. It was then approved by my consultant at my recent appointment.

0.9% does nothing for me. Nebulising 7% is much better. Really helps clear all the gunk out 🙂

Morning. I agree with the other guys here. I have bronchiectasis too and nebulizing with 0.9% (isotonic) saline does not improve the chest clearance, hence why I have asked my resp consultant to be assessed for hypertonic saline. I think you are doing the right thing in suggesting an upgrade :)

Thank you, it’s very useful to have info to take to your appointment. My problem is mucus plugs in my lungs which then seem to add to my breathing problems when my asthma plays up.
