Hi, I have Bronchiectasis and read these posts for support or info. One thing is: I noticed people talk about 'flare ups'. What are these like? I mostly always have thick horrible phlegm and only 2x in the last 4yrs had not so much phlegm for a week post antibiotics
Secondly: I'm struggling with my weight, it was 58kg for many years, now I'm anything from 50kg to 52kg and I can't seem to gain. I've lost most of muscle mass...any thoughts?
Thirdly: I struggle with side effects from most antibiotics apart from Amoxycillin and Co-Amoxyclav. Doxycycline creates pressure in my head and gives me very bad migraines. Are there any that others have found helpful without issues (I know we're all different).
Sorry for all the questions, I am under care at a hospital but they seem quite casual about this and I don't fully understand the condition nor why I've lost all this muscle.
Many thanks in advance.
Xx

it sounds like you’re not under a Bronchiectasis specialist. General respiratory doctors don’t all know much about Bronchiectasis.
A lot of doctors favour Doxycycline but I won’t take it as it’s given me stomach problems. I prefer co- amoxiclav
I think infections manifest in different ways according to the bug that’s causing the problem.
I’m immune compromised so for me I always have a high temperature but it’s usually deemed to be when you have green mucus. Usually feeling rotten as well. Have you thought about getting an appointment with your GP about your muscle and weight loss? It could be unrelated to your Bronchiectasis. There’s a lot of information here:
Usual signs of infective exacerbation - more, thicker green mucous.in addition, i get rattly and wheezy, short of breath and feel ill, glands swollen but I've also asthma and many other probs.
