Stopping diuretics

I have been on diuretics since 2022 and finally reduced to 25mg spironolactone which I’m due to come off. Now recompensated/compensated. It’s been a long journey since 480mgs of a combo or ferusamide & spironolactone. I’ve heard weight gain might occur when I stop. Has anyone experienced this? My hope is my weight will hold as the consultant advised to maintain it.

Thanks in advance! Stay strong, you can do it 💪

HiI was on spiralactone from 2019 to 2023. Came off last May. Was told to weigh daily as if you put on a lot of weight quickly it's the fluid returning. Thankfully that hasn't happened. That's the only weight gain I was advised about. Hoping it will stay the same!

Hi - good news if you’re coming off them. I took for just a year and no weight gain after stopping. Keep an eye on it and good luck!

Hi, I had an ascites abdominal fluid drain in January 2022, 12 litres was withdrawn.I was then prescribed spironolactone (200mg) and furosemide (40mg). Ultrasound scans in October 2022 then April 2023 showed no fluid buildup and I was taken off medication.

There is now no sign of any abdominal weight gain.

I do still maintain a healthy low salt diet.

Good luck!

Congratulations chick! Awesome tenacity!

I gained about 4 lbs after going off them. I look so much better now at 109 lbs… as 105 lbs was much too thin. My weight hasn’t changed in over a year. It’s just right! 😁

I must admit, they are lowering my dose and I have put a little weight on but it's nothing that can't be shifted. It feels like a normal weight gain rather than a pressurised tummy if that makes sense. You seem to be coping really well. It explains the reason why I'm not completely off it yet. Take care.
