I’m conscious that no one has replied to your earlier post either. I didn’t want you to feel that no one was paying attention. We’re not doctors on here so can’t diagnose and what you’re describing is a bit odd…so I suspect that’s why no one has posted. PHG is associated with portal hypertension, which is a feature of later liver disease. Before you panic though…with Barrett’s Oesophagus you’ll be most likely taking proton pump inhibitors (for the heartburn) and these can have a strange effect on the stomach’s surface. Also if you did have PHG, you’d expect to be anaemic…which you don’t say you are. There’s no way that your liver can go from mild fatty infiltration to cirrhosis in 7 months…hence I said the PHG sounds odd. Your doctor is best placed to answer your queries and will be able to explain what they saw. I suspect they’ll want to do more tests to see what’s going on.

Hello, I too saw both posts and would agree with aotea. You would need more tests to confirm cirrhosis. An LFT (liver function blood test) etc to check out the liver. You have a lot going on and your dr would be the best place to start. Take a list of questions and write the answers down...it help when it all starts getting a bit much. I wish you luck .

Was your Barret's Oesophagus diagnosed at the scope you had 3 years ago after you started noticing black dots in your stools - did they ever get to the bottom of that (pardon the pun) ? I too doubt you have developed cirrhosis in a manner of months unless you've been very acutely unwell in that period. Did your latest ultrasound scan give any indication as to the direction of portal veinous flow? Signs of portal hypertension can often be seen on ultrasound.

There is also the possibility of non-cirrhotic portal hypertension.

You definitely need to speak to your clinician for further discussion as to what has been found and what their next plans are.
