Has anyone in the UK been diagnosed with HSV-1 Hepatitis?
I've had an two week stay in hospital. Diagnosed with Accute Hepatitis. I have been tested for all the obvious viruses which cause Hepatitis, all with negative results.
Ultrasound & CT's of the liver, pancreas & gall bladder, all clear.
I was discahrged from hospital last Friday with no definitive answers other than "It's a virus but, we are unable to pinpoint which one".
I still have jaundice. My Bilirubin is still sitting at 300+ umol/L (highest while in hospital was 800+). I still feel nauseous. My urine is still very dark & poop very pale. I am exhausted.
I have read a few American articles that have noted Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 causing Hepatitis.
I was diagnosed with genital HSV-1 about 10 years ago. I had a genital outbreak but, I believe I caught the virus many years ago without any symptoms.
Could I have an outbreak now & it's causing the Hepatitis?
I suggested it to the specialist & it was brushed off.
I also live with Type 1 Diabetes so I am already immunocompromised.
Interested to see if this is something the NHS will take seriously.

I had a very similar experience to you back in January, February although mine followed food poisoning.
Prior to this perfect health and generally living a healthy lifestyle.

Jaundiced, dark urine, felt dreadful.
All tests carried out, all negetive.
Was sent home and was told I had a virus that my body had rid but it had given my liver a good kicking but should recover fully in time, was given steroids for inflammation for several weeks and improved whilst on prednisalone then after finishing the course my levels raised once again, recently been diagnosed with AIH
Have you been treated whilst in hospital and are you feeling any better now?
If at any point you feel as though things arnt right, go back straight away, sorry for staying g the obvious but when I was sent home I rapidly went down hill and made several attempts to be seen again and was told to persevere as initially thought it could be hep A
Eventually when I went back for follow up there seemed to be a panic and was on drips for days, had to stay in for three weeks to stabilise.
I completely appreciate how you must be feeling , though, has to be the worst I’ve ever felt in my life, I found even smells made me sick and not necessarily horrible smells.
Found I could stomach grapes and Rice if your struggle if maybe try them, keep your energy levels up.
100% smells too... I've completely gone off meat & can only have fairly bland food. Most fruits & veg I'm okay with & like you you, rice, pasta & porridge.
I was at The Queen Elizabeth, King's Lynn.
First admission was 3 days, 2nd admission 11 days. Advised to fo back to A&E if I start feeling worse.
I was in A&E the first time, sat upright in a chair, for 20 hours before a bed became available (and that was only because my husband emailed a complaint to PALS).
I'll be contacting my GP tomorrow to make sure they're getting my blood results from the hospital (none of these results are showing on my NHS app).
