Can progression (once you have cirrhosis) be halted?

Hi,

I have compensated cirrhosis (NASH), if I change my diet can the progress of the cirrhosis be halted completely or is it likely to progress at a slower rate? (or is this just unknown?)

Thank you.

Yes, effectively.

You will need to make significant changes - diet, exercise, abstinence from alcohol, but it is possible to slow progress

yes you can stop it progressing, and even improve liver function by taking care of it. My partner has gone from decompensated to compensated by following a no alcohol, low salt, relatively healthy diet and trying to exercise

Some types of cirrhosis are better than others. If the cause can be removed progression can be halted.

Alcohols the obvious one!

So is being severely overweight.
