Hello, can anyone confirm if Ascites - even mild, will always mean decompensated Cirrhosis?

(With the exception of other diseases/causes)

Thanks

Ascites doesn’t always mean cirrhosis, it is a sign of advancing liver disease either in the form of alcohol hepatitis/acute liver failure or of course cirrhosis itself, however, and is one of the major complications that if untreated can be life threatening. You need to see a doctor as quickly as possible if you feel you have it or are worried about such issues, no one here can diagnose anything and it’s only something a doctor can do using various diagnostic tools like an US, a physical examination, taking bloods etc. Good luck.

I had it during what turned out to be covid complicated alcoholic hepatitis where I was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis which, in the end, was wrong. But it is serious and you must consult medical advice urgently.

That’s basically what happened to me minus the Covid part, alcohol hepatitis which mimics cirrhosis and if left untreated turns into fully blown cirrhosis and from what I’ve been told if you don’t stop drinking straight away, eventually leads to a very quick and horrible death. It’s basically acute liver failure and with it other organs shut down very quickly. I was told had I not come into hospital last March in the condition I was in, I’d not have lasted much longer as my body was already starting to shut down on me and even then they said if I left and hit the booze again not just straight after but down the line, there would be no recover. OP you really need to see a doctor ASAP if you have any concerns, especially as you’ve had jaundice in the past due to drinking. Good luck and take care.

I do not know, but an oncologist told me protein helps and suggested I get a mix for that. I use Ascent slow burn in milk and it sure helps with bruising! I am guessing it helps with the leakage too as I am showing signs of that. That is my two cents.
