high folate : does anyone know what... - British Liver Trust
high folate
Elevated levels of folic acid in the blood can be caused by taking additional vitamins or supplements or eating foods rich in folates (eg, leafy greens, beans, whole grains). But it is important to consult a doctor for an accurate diagnosis.
thank you fibro for your reply, I have been eating a lot of gluton free coco pops for breakfast and sometimes evening meal which is not the best diet I know, I’m wondering if I have been eating a lot of iron there without realising it, I don’t understand why folate is high but ferritin is dropping, I can’t see dr until next Friday, this is why I’m asking for any experiences or knowledge on here, thanks again xx
I have use been put on two doses of Ferrinject due to low iron and anaemia. Why this has not been picked up before is a total mystery. As I have been under the same liver dept for over three years. All the best.

didn’t ask I assumed no news is good news?
I had high folate for a while. I was taking supplements as my folate levels had been very low. I had been very unwell but had started to improve and my body had started to recover. I’d also been eating a diet which was very rich in spinach, green cabbage, red kidney beans and chickpeas which my dietician had advised because I’d had low folate levels. I came off the supplements but kept the diet and everything returned to normal. It may be that you are taking multivitamins/vit B supplements and also eating a rich folate diet.
