Hi Jimmy. I'm 65 I have had a diagnosis of NAFLD and cirrhosis for around 8 years. I also have high blood pressure and high cholesterol. For around 35plus years I have had issues with meds and foods. I have had to use a lot of antacids to cope at times and even those I try to have a break from from time to time to allow the natural chemicals in the body to do their job. What I try to do is eat several small meals a day well spread out to stop hunger and also encourage the body to keep processing the food. I really do Take note of what sets me off. For instance watching the rich, spicy food. Bread, cakes, pastry and fried or fatty food are a problem and have to be a treat not a norm and only small doses. I also find raw vegetables difficult. Not that I'm a lettuce lover anyway. Actual chocolate can be difficult as can coconut and fizzy drinks.
Timing of when I eat certain foods also helps. I also have a drink when I eat of tea or if I'm having problems a white hot chocolate made with water.
The tougher the day the soya milk foods help most. Warm hot water bottles wrapped in a towel or a warmed wheat bag also help on the tummy or painful area.
Meds is really you need to talk to your doctor to see what they can suggest.
It gets a bit frustrating at times but I have found over the years I Get fewer flare ups and as long as I am sensible i can indulge a tiny bit. The tiny bit is my biggest enemy.
Best of luck
Gill
I am a 67 year old lady and have non alcohol cirrhosis, too. Of late, my stomach has been so uncomfortable and painful, resulting in floaty poos and being quite explosive when I do go. Sorry to be so graphic but I need to explain. I think I may have malabsorption but Im on Ozempic for my diabetes and I know that can cause stomach issues too. Im at a loss as to what foods to eat, and I've been having small cups of warm milk to try and ease my discomfort. It's a minefield to deal with and quite debilitating. Hope you get some good advice from others in your situation x
as well. HiMy first suggestion is try to speak with your liver specialist. With food try and keep a diary of what you eat and the reaction. You may find the more indigestible it is the more likely it is to cause trouble. Apple is lovely but is a problem for me, even if I try to chew it well. Grated apple or carrot is easier. Big meals can also be a problem. If you like a desert after your main meal have it after a couple of hours from the main meal. The main thing is to make sure you are getting enough nutrients. Check your weight, are you losing weight, and is it deliberate. White bread is a problem for me as well.
Keep a diary for a few days and spark to your consultant. It is probably nothing but if you are anything like me until they tell you you will worry. I'm still nervous until I see mine again as my last ultrasound hurt a bit. It was a new person doing it but it made me anxious, until I see my heptologist.
