Hi my husband was diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis at the end of 2021. His last consultant appointment was the beginning of 2022. He finally has a consultant appointment this week. I'm compiling a list of questions to ask at his appointment as I feel as though we are in the dark with regards to his diagnosis. He's had 6 monthly ultrasounds and endoscopies, he attends the liver clinic for bloods every 8 weeks but we've never really had any results explained to us. We would really like to know his MELD (UKELD) score or his child Pugh score and if a transplant is on the cards. What other questions should we be asking the consultant as I really want to be fully informed? Everything I know about his condition I've had to google and don't want to waste an opportunity to get proper answers from the consultant? Thank you Jo
Consultant Appointment : Hi my husband... - British Liver Trust
Consultant Appointment
we are in a similar postition with my husband, his next consultant meeting is coming up. He had varices - so decompensated - and, after some infections and more varices, finally seems compensated, fingers crossed. After the first consultation we were sent a printed sheet with meld and childs Pugh. There is also a bone density scan to ask for. My husband does not get regular bloods so will be asking for that. Will be following your post as I would like to know the questions too. Definitely worth prepping to get the most out of these sessions. Good luck.
Hi, on the liver trust website under diagnosis and care there is a section on questions to ask your doctor along with a lot more information that might help. The liver trust website tends to be more up to date than google aswell. Good luck with appointment.
