How to identify varices bleed and what to do?
My hubby was passing blood in his stools for some weeks before he vomited blood one night - thereby starting our liver journey. There was both fresh red blood and dark, tarry, sticky stool. He put this down to a rectal tear (as one of our friends had this at the same time). He only told me about it after he'd been hospitalized via a&e after his vomiting blood (fresh red blood, burgundy wine colour plus clots resembling coffee granules).
Any vomiting of blood or passing blood is not normal and requires urgent medical attention.

Dear Tipovtong
We hope you are receiving medical attention after your call to 999. If you vomit blood or pass blood with your stools this is a medical emergency and you should go to hospital immediately. You should tell the doctors and nurses that you have liver disease and bleeding.

Hi, the first and only symptom of liver disease I had was vomiting up nearly all the blood in my body, had no idea what it was so phoned GP who made the 20 minute trip to my house in 10 minutes having already sent for an ambulance, I was just told to lay in bed and not move whilst I waited. Once I got to hospital I was but on a low dependency ward and left over night, I spent nearly all night in the toilet passing thick black poo, next day I was told it was probably an ulcer and they would put a camera down to look, several hours later I had endoscopy when they discovered varicies, I choked on the camera and bought up more blood, I lost so much blood I had a stroke. Woke up 3 days later when I was told what had happened. Nobody at hospital would believe how much blood I had vomited.GP told me if it happened again to phone 999 not them.
Good luck
Hilary ❤
