Here’s to hoping!

Hi all, as you can see I have posted on here some years ago due to worries I had after a period of heavy drinking. However, I have now been sober for 21 months, I follow your posts to serve as a reminder to myself what can happen should I ever fall from the apple cart - so thank you!

A year or so before I quit alcohol I was suffering with RUQ pain after particularly heavy drinking sessions, but told myself it was nothing to worry about as a year prior I’d had an ultrasound that the sonographer commented on my ‘text book healthy liver’ despite my ALT levels raised to about 77 prior to the scan. Soon after I quit drinking and RUQ subsided.

I had a routine blood test after 7 months of sobriety which revealed raised cholesterol but ALT was still elevated (75) 3 years after my initial raised ALT result. This wasn’t pointed out to me at the time and I was told to eat healthier.

Over the last 6 months the RUQ pain returns after spells of unhealthy eating. I have visited my GP who’s scheduled me for LFT and another ultrasound. I guess my question is has anyone else who’s been sober for this long continued to get raised ALT and what was the cause? Or has been through similar? I guess I won’t know until the tests are done.

obviously I’m fearing cirrhosis.

I’m 34 now, drank heavily (between 4 and 10 pints of lager a day, sometimes spells of far less) for about 7 years. Before that was just the usual weekend drinking with pals.

I’d like to end this post by saying thank you to all that post, I read your posts every day and has served as a reminder to exactly why I chose to quit and remain sober.
