So pleased

I was told I had NASH a year last October. As a result, I was sent for a Fibroscan and my kpa reading was 36.6. My liver image looked white with fat.I have type 2 diabetes, gall stones and a hiatus hernia. I was floored by the diagnosis and stressed so much. My anxiety level went through the roof. I referred to Dr Google and was scared witless by what I read. Moving on 6 months in June last summer, I had an ultrasound to check that there weren't any growths etc manifested but there weren't any. From last October I changed my diet, my diabetes readings are now normal due to losing three stones. Yesterday I had a second fibroscan and I was so happy as my reading for kpa is now 13.4 which is still high but a lot lower than the initial reading. I have to maintain a low fat diet and abstain from alcohol (which is easy for me as I don't drink). My point is that initially, my GP took some real questioning to confirm that I had a fatty liver. It was much worse than that and he seemed to play it down some what. It transpires that there are thousands like me with NASH,/CIRRHOSIS who aren't aware that they are on the first step of severe liver disease but have never been tested or informed of the repercussions of this very serious disease and how it can progress if no lifestyle changes are undertaken. I am so happy to be heading in the right direction but I do wonder why the general public aren't made aware of what, in effect, is a ticking time bomb. Sorry to be so long winded but I needed to get this off my chest.

I totally agree with you, if I had known I had a fatty liver I could possibly have done something to reverse it, however I knew nothing about it until I vomited up nearly all the blood in my body from varices, even after that it took several years before I was diagnosed with NASH cirrhosis, blood tests ok, scans ok. Ended up having a transplant. The British liver trust have had a campaign to spread awareness of nafld, even many doctors are not aware of its seriousness, I'm in a Facebook group for type 2 diabetics and frequently I see posts that people have been told they have a fatty liver but not to worry about it, I soon tell them otherwise.

Pleased that you have worked hard to reverse yours.
