Testing

Hello All.

im in the Philippines at the moment and not due back to the UK until April next year. Been diagnosed initially with NAFLD but in July this year I had had to have my gallbladder removed and in the process was told that I have cirhossis of the liver.

ive seen an advert here for liver function tests and wondered if someone can look at the testing on offer and let me know whether I should be asking for other or different tests also. Hope that makes sense ? I've hopefully attached a photo of the ad in question. Thanks in advance. Regards John

Dear Johndavidliver,

No one on this forum can diagnose you. Here is the link to information on our website explaining liver disease tests, diagnosis and screening, which you may find useful

Hello and thank you for responding. With all due respect I wasn't asking for anyone to diagnose me I was purely asking if there was any other test apart from the ones the testing company were offering that I should be asking for. Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough?! Regards

Don't know the health system over there so don't know whether you have to get your bloods done privately or through a doctor. If you go this route for testing who is going to interpret them for you or indeed act on findings? 6 monthly blood tests in UK of cirrhotic patients usually include full liver panel, Liver Function tests, full blood count, Urea and electrolytes, diabetes test, (sometimes) thyroid tests, blood clotting time and Alpha fetoprotein (AFP) to check for potential tumours and possible more PLUS you'd have a 6 monthly scan (ultrasound at minimum).

John - are you under the care of a liver doctor? If you are, they will have done this hundreds of times and know what tests to do/ask for. I know there are hospitals that due liver transplants in Manilla so you should try to see a doctor there and have someone "take you under their wing" so to speak. They will order all the right tests.

Good luck!
