Skin Itching
Hi johndavid
This is a frequently asked question - not surpringly 😕 - so if you look at “Related Posts” (top right on an iPad) you will see lots of people who have asked this question. Click on those and you will see lots of answers.
Good luck and I hope you can alleviate your itching.

It's the build up of bilirubin that causes itching (pruritis) in liver disease - there are frequent posts about itching and what can be done about it. Some folks are prescribed antihistimines like fexofenadine, some folks get prescribed Ursodeoxycholic acid (Urso) which is a treatment commonly used for those with Primary Biliary Choloangitis.
Cold baths, showers, cotton breathable clothing, menthol creams, E45 cream often come up as suggestions.
Nothing really works unless the bilirubin levels come down.
It's important to try and not scratch as breaking the skins surface can lead to infection thereby opening up a whole can of other worms.
Hope you get some relief from it soon.

I had itchy skin when I was first diagnosed with liver cirrhosis 7-8 years ago, it went away and now it has come back with a vengeance, I am on something called "Menthol 1% Aqueous cream" that is really taking the edge off.
I can see from my latest tests that my Billirubin is too high, so there are all sorts of ways apparently to bring this down, drinking more water, staying hydrated, eating enough vegetables and fruit I think? Latest one I want to try is celery sticks, honestly it is driving me mad 😀
Thanks for responding. I'm doing most of that especially the water and fruit. Is there times of the day worse than others for the Itching?Jx
