Back for another try!

Well, joined here last year when Fibroscan showed level (stage?) 3. NAFLD & AFLD with Kia 10.3,

None of the above means a thing to me except for. The NALD, AFLD, which I guesss. Speaks for itself 😁

I had then stopped drinking for a couple of weeks, but then backslid LOTS.

Anyway, right now, for first time since 2009, I have been teetotal since 29 May! A couple of trips into hospital, Incredibly ill with unrelated sickness, which came seriously close to costing my life.

I took advantage of the situation and when one of the specialists asked about my drinking habits,,

I bit the bullet as it were and answered ‘way too much’, without missing a beat, or putting me on the spot, he just said ‘OK. I will organise a. Little something to help you!’ Suddenly I had a couple of extra tabs to take and what a difference they made! 2 days later he stuck his head into my cubicle and said ‘feeling better’, smiled and was gone. But not before he left a prescription so I have extra to take at home.

But just being spoken to non- judgementally made all the difference- have had exactly 1 solitary craving & it didn’t last long.

My question: is it possible at Stage 3 NAFLD/AFLD, to reverse any of the damage done? I’m getting stronger every day, no longer need wheelchair, or Zframe, slowly walking unaided.

Surely there must be some hope out there?

P

Look, I don't really know anything about this - I have NAFLD & a bunch of other stuff, but it takes a lot of courage to just say that you were drinking too much & I think you're amazing. And you're absolutely right about a nonjudgmental response: you need support & help, not a wagging finger or a raised eyebrow. I'm overweight, and I know this & I know that I'd be healthier if I wasn't & I'm trying to not be, but the judgemental head-tilt responses make me want to inhale a bucket of cream cakes..

I cannot give any useful advice or information, but I think there's always hope & I'm quite sure that quitting alcohol HAS to help! And hooray for you managing this x

Thank you for your very kind words. Kindness is often worth more than money etc., NAFLD = Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, I dropped 3 stone in just on a month! But still have a way to go, there has got to be an easier way than a couple of weeks unconscious on drips 😂😂😂 I attended my first diabetic clinic meeting tonight, the others know nothing of my background and I think this is a good thing. Fresh start. As I have both NAFLD + AFLD, I’m kind of hoping that weight loss will help.

If you need any help I can give, I will.

For my new eating regime I have downloaded the NUTRA CHECK app. It is easy to use and free.

Thank you again. For your kind words,, it has helped confirm my decision to come back to this site.♥️🌹

Hooray! Unconscious on a drip sounds pretty grim tbh, you poor thing.

I'll have a look at the app, thanks! I have got to do something, as I'm just waiting & waiting for a surgery date that never comes & feeling increasingly blurgh.

I've got gallstones also, & multiple benign tumours on liver (FNH & haemangiomas) & surgeons haven't yet told me if they're doing liver resection plus gallbladder removal, or just the latter. But I seem to be developing other symptoms of liver disease, with itchy skin & nausea, fatigue, swollen belly. Just need it all removed, I think! 😆

🤣🤣🤣if I could have it all gone I would also! Gallbladder can be done via keyhole (mine was despite my completely rearranged insides). As for your Liver - it sounds scary, you must be very frightened! It’s an awful lot to face at once! I do hope you are not alone in all this. The nutrition check app enables you to put in what you eat or plan to eat each day, it gives calories, carbs, monitors servings of veges, fruit etc., there is also an activity recorder.

The itching will subside, it takes a little time, but once your treatments get underway, it will get better.

Step up your vitamins and minerals, either via more fruit & vege, which is the ideal way or get a small multi vitamin & mineral tab, check with GP, but a change of diet often lifts ‘low mood’

It’s helpful, I no longer have to have stern words with my bathroom scales (they tell such terrible lies some days ha ha).

Anyway, it’s bedtime for me. Tomorrow is a new day! All the best and hopefully we can catch up in weekend!

Good job for coming clean with your dr but more importantly your self:) hugs to you and I have read all stages can be reversed before cirrhosis

Thank you, I have been reading various reports and combing the ‘literature ‘ for various studies etc. you are correct, much can be reversed, BUT, it is dependent on cause. So I can and am losing weight, have stopped alcohol entirely. Now heading into week 8 or 9. I understand from what I’m reading is that I have been incredibly lucky! The heavy drinking was for 20 yrs. I should be much further deteriorated and technically dead with my last bout of illness combined with a wonderful dose of COVID! Therefore either have not completed whatever task I’m on this Earth to complete or luckier than many others!

But anyone reading this - it is worth stopping the plonk, it is worth getting shot of some weight. It can only get better from here!

Hello Dolly ; There's a song in that somewhere... :) I'm stage 3-4 Fibrosis with bridging, I've also had a couple of trips to the liver unit hospital etc over the past year lost weight Abstinent since April. Weight loss for those suffering from both conditions comes off when the calorie reduction through no Alcohol too, still getting the tiredness, unfortunately have other issues as well which can be hidden when relying on drink to medicate, which I was almost certainly doing, I've also read things can get better I'm hoping they do, unfortunately my thirst etc has increased and other symptoms, so I now need a diabetic check next week. Well done and keep on going !

Hi there, sorry to take so long! Am still abstinent. It has not been as difficult as I initially thought!😆. The weight loss has plateaued out, but at least it’s not going on. Am feeling better each day. You are quite correct about the ahh ‘medication’ thing. But small steps, small steps. They all help. You are only a matter of weeks away from me. Feeling better, just frustrated at ongoing pain from sudden extreme weight loss (no alcohol=lots of weight fell off), it’s incredibly painful while the body rearranges itself. I have also slid into Diabetic range and have begun working with diabetes clinic. But keep on keeping on. Small steps! & thank you for your understanding.
