Does a Fibroscan cover the whole of the liver or just a section? If it's a section then could you have say F3 on that part and another part have Cihrosis?

They will usually take 10 readings from right across the liver and frequently this means they pick up some denser areas and some less dense areas since by nature liver disease doesn't present absolutely uniformly. The liver will perhaps be patchy therefore you get 10 different readings.

Your report will give you an overall kPa figure which reflects the average or median score of all 10 readings.

Just for an example - say you have 4 differing readings - 6.7, 3.5, 9.8 & 14.9 they add these scores up then divide by the number of readings to reach the final kPa figure. In the example shown this would be 34.9 divided by 4 giving a final kPa reading of 8.7.

Katie, thank you. Yet again a really helpful answer. Much appreciated 😊

It is always median. It is worth to mention that when readings are very different the result is less accurate (because of the nature of the test not patchy fibrosis which of course can be also observed ). That's why producer (and many studies) suggests that only result with IRQ/median less than 30% (for results above 7.1 kpa median) should be consider as valid and reliable.

I think mine was 18%. I was told the reading was very accurate.
