There isn't any sort of specific diet for AIH though if your son is on high dose steroids he'll need to be cautious of sugar (steroid induced diabetes) and also excessive weight gain. However, as he has a diagnosis of a cirrhosis and may or may not be looking at transplant then he will need sufficient 'reserves' so certainly doesn't want to loose loads of weight or muscle mass.He really needs to see a liver specialist dietician - if you are going to be seen at a t/p hospital sometime soon then request to see the dietician for individualized dietary advice as it really depends on his current health status, weight, muscle mass and stage of liver disease as to what he needs to be eating. Certainly no need for apps etc. Little and often with plenty protein and carbs, low salt, low sugar and no processed garbage.
My hubby has cirrhosis due to AIH and he just eats a normal balanced diet - he's only on 5mg steroids though and previously was deemed malnourished with muscle wastage so does nibble and snack throughout the day - carbs and proten.
