Ascites

Hi, I was just wondering if it is a big problem when you get ascites nearly 4 years after a transplant.

I am seeing my doctor tomorrow but am concerned about the reason why this has happened.

Has it happened to anybody else?

How did you get on at your doctor's yesterday?

Well, apparently, I may now have scarring on my replacement liver and will need some tests to see if this is so. I’ve been put onto diuretics to get rid of the fluid but I wasn’t 100% happy if I’m honest. Diuretics can take a time to work so I was hoping for a short stay in hospital so that the fluid could be removed more quickly. Also, the diuretics they are going to use are ones I had an allergy to before I had my transplant so I am going to be given a low dose. Given I can only get into one skirt and top I’m a bit unhappy. I’ll see how things go I suppose.

Oh no, that's awful. So was your new liver already on the way to scarring when they gave it to you or is it medication that's hurt it? I can't believe they won't remove the fluid, and to put you on a med that you're allergic to is just ridiculous.

I’m not sure about the condition of my replacement liver at the time, it was certainly better than my own as I was pretty much at the end of my life when I received it.
