Supplements warning: The ‘healthy’ herbal supplement causing severe liver injuries

There is an article in today's Daily Express that warns of the dangers of taking supplements'. The use of alternative medicines and supplements such as Milk Thistle is a question that gets asked a lot on here.

It's quite natural for a person who's be diagnosed with a liver related condition, to want to try and make the liver better. So, there is always a danger of going on the internet for advice and trying different ways to repair their liver. There's is unfortunately plenty of false information and advertising out there, with some companies making bold claims and giving false hope.

This article explains some of the dangers and should hopefully serve as a warning to others. Although I don't like some of the Daily Expresses health comments, I think this article may be of benefit to others: express.co.uk/life-style/he...

A good reminder Richard. I was constantly pressed by a friend who believed Herbal remedies were the be all and end all of curing ailments and suggested frequent use of Milk Thistle would sort me out. A quick internet check showed exactly the opposite. I've seen St. John's Wort also touted as a universal panacea but most of my (long list of prescribed) meds insist that SJW should not be taken...

Thanks. I have heard of the milk thistle. I don’t take anything unless my dietician or specialist approves. They are probably so tired of me asking can I use this whey protein, açaí powder etc… better safe than sorry.
