Hi, I'm new on here today. My ALTs have been a high as 1300 in the past few months and the drs have no clue. I have been sober for over 10 years. I'm looking for support from others who know the pain and feeling so ill all the time.

Have they run autoimmune marker tests or done a liver biopsy or even started you on steroids to try and bring those ALT levels down? Such a high score as that is often seen in auto immune hepatitis (I take it they'e already tested for the more obvious viral hepatitis's etc). Is it your GP who is muddling along here or have you been referred to a hospital specialist?
Levels as high as this are potentially causing damage to your liver the whole time they are raised so it needs examining urgently by a liver specialist.

Hi, I've been in inpatient for a total of 4.5 weeks in the last 4 months. The Gastro team at my local hospital, after running every test possible, have finally agreed to a ultrasound guided biopsy (I recieved the letter today). No date yet. They tested for autoimmune things, cancer, hepatitis A-E etc but everything has come back negative. The limbo is hard to deal with but it's the pain and feeling so ill all the time is the hardest.
The biopsy should give an idea what is going on, on a cellular level. Diagnosis of AIH often involves a huge jigsaw of tests including a biopsy but also a pretty firm way of diagnosing it is a positive response to steroids (prednisolone is usually the go to).
My hubby has cirrhosis due to AIH which had never shown itself in the early stages and it wasn't till he had cirrhosis that we found out he had liver disease at all.
Fingers crossed they get to the bottom off your issue soon and get you under some sort of treatment.
Best wishes,
Katie
