I recently paid for a private blood test as I was getting a dull pain below my ribs on my right side. The test came back 148 ALT 140 ALP and 211 GGT. I have to wait until Monday to contact the gp so was wondering if anyone knew what would cause all of these to be raised. All other results were normal. I have been taking pain relief quite often only paracetamol and I do drink only once a week but I do drink quite a bit when I do. Any ideas would be really appreciated.

Any number of things can cause liver inflammation markers to rise - could be the booze, the paracetemol, fatty liver, any number of viral infections, auto immune conditions, genetic issues. Knowing you've had some elevated results and a pain in your right side then it is obviously wise to see your GP and get this examined further.
In the interim you might want to reassess how much you are drinking. Since your liver is already inflamed - every drop of booze you are consuming is like throwing petrol on a bonfire and you are giving your liver a lot to handle. Whilst the liver can be quite forgiving it can't take a continual battering without eventually showing some signs of damage.
Thanks for your reply Kate. Since having the results I have not touched a drop or taken any pain relief and I will ensure I don’t anytime in the future. It’s quite a scare knowing I could be damaging my liver. I just hope things aren’t already so bad that I can’t make it better. Really appreciate your reply. Thank you
