9 years for hubby who was initially diagnosed with decompensated cirrhosis after nearly dying from burst varices. 6 years now since delisted from transplant list. Currently on holiday in Yorkshire Dales where we have walked over 80 miles since the start of the month (8 miles today in the heat) so doing pretty well.

I was diagnosed exactly the same as you. And about the same age. Almost 5 years ago.

No symptoms, just noticed on a blood test and scan for unrelated problem

It Totaly freaked me out!

I read all the horror stories and though my time was up!

Consultant said I will die WITH cirrhosis not BECAUSE of it and literally tens of thousands of people are walking around unaware they have cirrhosis.

Best advice he gave was look after it now and it will keep working.

We are lucky, we know we have a problem and have been given a warning.

MUCH better to be aware of it than carry on abusing it and getting symptoms.

Thank you RoyYour reply is like a massive relief

I had got to the point of not being able to think beyond tomorrow

I couldn't even plant a flower with fear I would never be around to see it grow

I will be kind to my Liver and never want to drink again 🤗x

I'm like Ayrshire, not diagnosed until very late stage because variciles burst. 10 weeks in hospital. Alcohol not a problem for me as never touched it. At first they said I would need a transplant within three months as I also have fibrosis, hepatitis, cirrhosis and portal vein thrombosis. However, changed my diet to mainly whole plant based, changed my insulin l evels three times and having been diabetic for 25+ years, I am now in the pre diabetic range. A transplant, at the moment, is only a maybe. X

It will be 5 years for me. My cirrhosis was only found because I went to the doctor with a persistent cough and they did an x ray and found fluid on my lungs. So it was a huge shock when I was told I had 12 months. I have followed the nutritionist plan and then was told to go plant based, no alcohol, salt , ready meals or takeaways. My results are really good and my doctor has said get on with your life as my results are really good, improved. To be honest I am really enjoying life also.
