HI AGAIN

IHAVE HAD FIBROSCAN RESULTS AND HAVE NOT HEARD FROM CONSULTANT ALTHOUGH SCAN WAS 3 WEEKS AGO, I PHONED MY GP WHO WAS ABLE TO DOWNLOAD A COPY OF THE RESULT TO ME. HE WAS UNABLE TO COMMENT ON THE RESULT BUT I WONDER IF ANYONE ON HERE CAN TRANSLATE MY RESULTS INTO LANGUAGE THAT I WOULD UNDERSTAND.

RESULTS

I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH NAFLD AND HAVE NEVER DRANK ALCOHOL IN MY LIFE

MANY THANKS IN ANTICIPATION

Your fibroscan tells you two things - CAP is the amount of fatty change in your liver and kPa is the degree of any fibrosis (However, it is very important to know that fibroscan can not tell the difference between any ongoing inflammation and actual dense or scarred tissue SO if, at the time of your scan you also had elevated liver enzymes indicating there is inflammation present then your kPa score could be falsly elevated).

Forget the IQR figures etc. that is part of the calculations - the results are the 23.6 kPa and 320 CAP.

As you already know you have a diagnosis of Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Diesease so you would expect a degree of fatty change in your liver which this scan is confirming - this from the Understanding your fibroscan score.

About Your CAP Score

Your CAP score is a measurement of fatty change in your liver.

Your healthcare provider will use your CAP score to find out your steatosis grade.

The CAP score is measured in decibels per meter (dB/m). It ranges from 100 to 400 dB/m.

The table below shows ranges of CAP scores and the matching steatosis grade and amount of fatty change.

CAP Score Steatosis Grade Amount of Liver with Fatty Change

238 to 260 dB/m S1 11% to 33%

260 to 290 dB/m S2 34% to 66%

Higher than 290 dB/m S3 67% or more

Your kPa score is high & you can see where it lies on the Fibroscan score chart with the bar for NAFLD. However, remember it can be a false reading if there is inflammation present at the time of the scan so until your consultant actually confirms it then don't go terrifying yourself.

Even with NAFLD you can often make SIGNIFICANT improvements to your liver by perhaps changing your diet and exercising more. The BLT has an excellent page on NAFLD at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

They also released details of a study into how a Mediterranean style diet can help with NAFLD - britishlivertrust.org.uk/ea...

I hope this helps you, hopefully you have a meeting with your consultant sometime soon to discuss all findings and put in place the plan for your future monitoring and care.

All the best, Katie

I would say there is always a chance for improvement. If you are able to improve your general health, diet and fitness then you should be able to make improvements on both scores. We've seen it on here over the years with people scoring far worse than you who have changed it around.

Best wishes, Katie
