Fibroscan results today

I finally received my Fibroscan results from the hepatolgist. The KPA was very low and the CAP was very high. The doctor said F0 on the KPA. He told me the CAP just tells us there is fat in your liver which we already knew. He did not mention percentage of fat. He said the fat is not causing any issues as far as scarring or fibrosis. He said it does in some and not others and we don’t know why. He told me to continue to eat a healthy diet and exercise and follow up in a year. He said, this is all very good news. I still wonder if eventually the fat could turn to scar tissue or fibrosis. I know I’ve had fatty liver for 7-10 years, so I don’t know. He did not seem concerned.

I’d say if you’ve had fatty liver for this long and there’s still no fibrosis hen that’s a very positive sign. This hopefully means as long as you take care of yourself then your liver won’t take on much damage if any from this. Do you get any pains or was this all found during routine visits?

The fatty liver was found when I had a CT scan due to a ruptured ovarian cyst. I’ve been getting that dull ache under my ribs for at least 10 years. When it first started, I thought gallbladder, then fatty liver was found with the CT scan. US shows no gallbladder issues. I have not had a Hida scan. I assume the pain is from fatty liver. I told the doctor about the pain on my first visit. He did not ask about it this time and honestly, I was so relieved to be F0 that I forget to mention the pain again. I have it less often than before.

It’s good that things don’t seem to be progressing. Idk much about liver disease but I do read that some ppl with simple fatty liver never really have issues while some develops Nash or other liver conditions. Best thing is to keep up with a good anti inflammatory diet. My side hurts when I’m doing bad but my scans look good. I did have a HIDA that was over active but since my pain isn’t related to me eating they say my gallbladder is fine. I assume my pain is my liver struggling because when I take care of myself my pain is minimal.

I think you are correct. When I am doing the right things, less pain. I used to be a moderate drinker. The pain was very consistent when I drank, but haven’t had a drink in many years.

A few people have posted they were diagnosed with some type of muscular pain that involved their ribs.

Yea mine started because of my drinking I’m sure. When I stepped back I started feeling a lot better.

That is wonderful news. Especially as he said no follow up for a year. You should be so proud of yourself. Everything is in your hands. As long as you eat well, sleep well and exercise, I doubt you will have anything to worry about.

Well done :)

Thank you for the positivity and encouragement. I’m hoping to bring that CAP score down.

Positive news to be sure. I’m happy for you. I think sometimes we need a wake up call to get on track. We have the power to improve our outcome.

I agree, Cat. I think we have to live in a state of denial to do some of the things we do to our bodies. We definitely need to heed those wake up calls. I feel relieved and thankful today.

May I ask what your CAP and KPA scores were?

I want to say the KpA was 2.6 and the CAP was definitely in the high 300s. He said KpA was F0. I questioned the high CAP reading. He said the CAP could be 3000 (400 is just the test cut off ) as long as it’s not causing fibrosis or liver function issues. He read the results quickly and my anxiety was very high which is probably why my memory is fuzzy. The results are not showing in the patient portal under visit or test summary, so not sure of exact numbers.
