Cirrhosis diagnosis

Hi everyone

Quick recap for people new to this forum. Diagnosed with Hep C last year. Got it from a blood transfusion in 1986. Had the treatment and happily have since been cleared. Bad news is I am left with liver damage.

I have been approved for stage 1 compensation from the infected blood scheme set up for victims of the scandal. For those that don’t know about this, it is a scheme for people who were given infected blood by the NHS in the years before it was screened. To qualify for stage 1 you have to prove you had a transfusion before 1991. Stage 2 is for anyone who has severe liver damage as a result of Hep C. My application has been declined as they say there is not enough evidence to support my diagnosis! I have had ultrasound, fibroscan (21.5), and lastly, because the u/s abnormalities, an MRI scan. The results of all tests state that I have cirrhosis.

My question is, what other diagnostic test can I have, and can MRI give a false diagnosis? They have said I may have to provide further evidence! How can I do that? I was told by my consultant that apart from a biopsy the MRI scan is the best.

Thank you

They are making excuses not to pony up! Tell them "what further evidence do you need? - do you want me to send my liver by UPS?"

That’s what my husband said. Don’t know what other evidence I can provide. It’s the reason I was asking if anyone had heard of an MRI giving a false diagnosis.

MRI is one of the most accurate methods, if not the most accurate, maybe a biopsy, but I have read that a biopsy only gives very local information. Forget the false diagnosis, that is highly, highly unlikely. Don't waste your energy and time with being unsure and questioning the diagnosis : the NHS must pony up.
