Hi there everyone . This is a quick update on my husbands journey with Jaundice, gall stones blocking bile duct , ERCP. He didnt get better after ERCP. He had his liver biopsies and a week and a day later the consultant called him to say they (at the RVI) had discovered , that he has a Drug Induced Liver Injury . This has been caused by the drug they used to sedate him to remove the gall stones from the bile duct! Midazolam being the culprit the good news is that he will get better it's just going to take time. We are unsure if this will cause lasting long term damage and if so what that might be . But for the time being we are so very grateful that he will still be here for a while yet❤ he needs to have further bloods and his gall bladder out ASAP and also a meeting with consultant to sign him off in 4 weeks . Hope everyone else is doing ok at the moment and once again thank you all for your continued and helpful support and advice xx take care xx

Hi Poppyrocks I am glad they got to the bottom of your husband's problems - gosh, that is bad luck though for the drugs he was given for his blocked gallbladder to cause a liver injury! A double whammy! As I mentioned before I too am the recipient of a drug induced liver injury - mine was extreme and I had liver failure and was on "watch and wait" for the transplant list - but it has improved, slowly, over time. He will get there!

Hi there , thanks so much for your reply and support. I hope you are continuing to improve daily . It must have been terrifying for you . We are so relieved that he is on the up now . We still are unsure of a couple of things. Will it cause him to have long lasting damage or future problems ? And can he go back in the sun if we ever get any ha ha ? He was told to keep out of sun . You take care of yourself and hope you continue to get better . Kind regards Lesley x

Thanks so much, I am actually due into the Liver unit this morning (I work in the hospital so it's very convenient 😀) to see how I am doing. Last bloods were 3 months ago any my bilirubin was perfect, which is amazing, and I have zero symptoms, but my AST and ALT still elevated and my ALP and GGT still extremely elevated. Hoping for better news today. Like you and your husband I have lots of questions - what is the long term prognosis if these enzymes stay elevated, can I ever take painkillers again, can I ever enjoy a glass of wine on a night out again? Apologies if this last one in insensitive to others, I don't have a drink problem but have voluntarily abstained to give my liver the best chance at recovering.

You have done so well to get where you are 🥰 and lets hope you get good news today. Totally understand the alcohol thing as we dont drink much anyway . My husband has abstained totally from it all the way through his illness and me too . It would be good to know the answers to this as it is nice to have an occasional one if out for a meal. If they said no it really would not bother us . Heres to continued improvements and good health again .cheers Lesley x
